Drive-In
Services
“Honking
for Jesus” is about to begin for another season at the Mona Lutheran
Church, Mona, IA. A unique musical ministry begun in 1972, it which takes
place outdoors on the east lawn & parking lot of the church at 7:30
pm on designated Sunday evenings in a refurbished chicken coop. The audience
sits in their cars; to show their appreciation and approval of the musical
and spoken messages, they are encouraged to “honk their car horns!”
There are
a variety of musical offerings including single performers, trios, quartets
and blue grass fiddlers. There is something for everyone from traditional
to contemporary hymns and songs. The spoken messages vary. But, the main
concern is draw people to a comfortable setting for worship with an important
mission and message—that of our Lord Jesus Christ! Many good friendships
have been formed over the years. All denominations welcome!
The outdoor
services draw folks from a wide area in southern Minnesota and northern
Iowa. The focus of each service is presenting Christ’s message of
hope and encouragement through music and faith stories. Some of the people
attending may have problems, may be seeking help that may come to them
as they listen to the phrases of a contemporary gospel song or someone’s
testimony.
The services
are held in early evening to attract senior citizens and others, perhaps
with health problems, who may not be able to come to a morning service.
Overall, the intent is to provide a worshipful experience for all in a
casual, warm & friendly atmosphere. Once the service is over, all
are welcome to join the sponsoring congregations of Mona and Six Mile
Grove Lutheran Churches for coffee and refreshments.

2009 SARATOGA BOYS (INDOOR SERVICE):
THE SARATOGA BOYS: The quartet comes from a little country church nestled
in the northeastern Iowa community of Saratoga. They sing a mixture of
inspirational, contemporary, and favorite old-time gospel melodies that
will uplift your spirit and challenge you to a deeper walk with the Lord.
Though each member has a different full-time occupation, everyone shares
a common desire to present the gospel in music as the Lord provides opportunity.
They are: Arnie Tonjes, first tenor; Harold Jensen, second tenor; Dan
Beran, baritone; and Steve Karels, bass. They are accompanied by Jane
Karels (Steve's wife).
July 19,
2009 The Foundation Quartet of Apple Valley
"For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid,
which is Jesus Christ." - I Corinthians 3:11 - This quartet sings
a variety of old Gospel favorites and enjoys reconnecting with the Mona
crowd that has gotten to know them so well over the several years that
they have been a part of our summer drive-in event.
The Foundation Quartet enjoys making harmonious gospel music together.
Like most gospel music, their songs talk about the foundations of faith:
the forgiveness of sins through Jesus Christ, the joy of new life in Him,
and the hope of eternal life with Him in Heaven. Their travels have brought
them before groups all around the Midwest: Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota,
South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Illinois. They even have a winter "tour"
in the Phoenix area.
The FOUNDATION
QUARTET is composed of four men who love the Lord and have chosen to serve
Him singing Southern Gospel Music. The messages and harmonies of the songs
we sing have brought encouragement and blessing, as we minister to groups
large and small all over the Midwest and on our Arizona Tour during the
frozen months. Bob Fallt, joined the Quartet in 1995, a retired EFCA pastor
of more than fifty years. He sings Tenor, as the Manager for the group,
is the one you contact when you want the group to come to your church
or special event. John Backstrom joined in 2006, sings Lead, and is a
retired American Airlines pilot. Because he is the Treasurer, he is the
one you give the “free will offering” to when we sing for
you. Dester Kile joined late in 2006. He sings Baritone, and come to us
with a wide variety of music ministry in his many years of serving the
Lord. Dale Tornell has been singing Bass in the Quartet since 1999, when
he retired from teaching fifth graders. Dale, the Transportation Director,
also helps with choosing music and coordinating recording projects.
The Quartet wives play a large part in our ministry. They not only give
encouragement, help, and prayers, they sell our projects, play the piano,
organize our lives, and run the soundboard. Though we sing a wide variety
of styles and tempos, we strive to show our love of close four-part harmony
by carefully choosing old and new gospel songs that speak to us, as well
as to our audiences. We sing in churches for worship services, special
concerts, banquets, adult fellowship groups, as well as gospel conventions
and sings.

2009 THE MEYER BROTHERS & FRIENDS – Mona, IA (Kurt, Lowell,
Mark, Scott Meyer)
The Meyer Brothers grew up in the Mona Lutheran Church, the sons of Loren
and Margaret Meyer. Kurt, Lowell and Mark may be joined by family members
and friends to provide wonderful harmony and high quality religious entertainment
with a light touch of humor.
The Meyer Brothers started their singing careers as children with frequent
performances for parents, grandparents, milk cows… anyone who would
listen! As they grew older, their careers took them in many different
directions, but the brothers always found a way to get together again
to sing for special occasions. And, for the last two years, the brothers
have been especially blessed to perform at Mona Lutheran Church’s
summer drive-in service where they have delighted audiences with their
take on gospel favorites, classic hymns and more.
Kurt (tenor), the eldest of the singing Meyers, worked as a consultant
to non-profits for the last 28 years, most recently with Kairos, a nationally
renowned Christian resource development firm in St. Paul. He and his wife
Paula now live in Mitchell County and they have three children, Margaret,
Eleanor and Ethan.
Mark (bass), a Sergeant with the Waterloo (Iowa) Police Department for
the last 32 years, also serves as an agent for the Tri-County Drug Task
Force. Mark and his wife Ann (a Lieutenant with the Department) have three
children: Loren, Lana and Natalie, and welcomed their first grandchild
this past year.
Lowell (baritone) is a social worker in St. Paul where he works for Goodwill/Easter
Seals as the clinical supervisor of its mental health services division.
He lives in Mendota Heights with his wife, Margaret, his wife’s
mother, Barbara and his children, Samuel and Georgia.
Scott (tenor) is the youngest of the brothers and is well known at Mona
Lutheran Church. Scott is pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sibley,
Iowa, where he has been since 2006. Previously, Scott served parishes
in Waseca and Hayward, Minnesota, Arlington, Iowa & currently, Sibley,
Iowa. Scott and his wife, Regina, have three children: Peter, Clara and
Andrea.
August 2,
2009 HAYWARD QUARTET (Hayward/Trondhjem Quartet & Pastor Scott Meyer)
The Hayward Trondhjem Quartet started singing as a quartet in 1996 after
Pastor Scott Meyer was called to serve the Hayward Lutheran and Trondhjem
Lutheran congregations. During the time that Pastor Scott served these
congregations, the quartet included two retired farmers, Phil Tennis,
a who sings baritone and Dan Johnson who sings bass; Kevin Lucas, tenor,
who manages a hog operation, and Pastor Meyer.
In 2001, Meyer accepted a call to Waseca as an associate pastor. Because
the group enjoyed singing together and since Pastor Scott is a son of
the Mona congregation, the drive-in committee was pleased to be able to
include this quartet again for the 2009 season.

2009 PRAISE HIM – Glenville, MN
"Worship the Lord with joy; come before Him with happy songs!"
- Psalm 100:2
"Dear Friends in Christ, Thank you for inviting Praise Him to join
you in worship! We are looking forward to sharing God's message through
scripture, word, and songs. Please pray for us as we seek the Lord regarding
these things. It is a privilege to worship together, to gather without
fear, and to anticipate that God will reveal to each of us as we diligently
meet him in prayer. As Psalm 73:26 assures us, we will surely rejoice
and be glad! My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of
my heart and my portion forever. May God's blessings come to pass, as
His strength is made evident in your church and in your homes! Love and
peace - Praise Him."
Back for the third year, PRAISE HIM is a group of committed Christians
whose mission is to glorify God and praise His Holy Name. They have traveled
throughout southern Minnesota, as well as southern Wisconsin, Kansas and
Iowa. Members are David and Carrie Paulson, Arlen and Colleen Brekke,
Larry and Emily Otto, and Larry and Terry Jenson. www.smig.net/praisehi

onstage at a very early age and was active in community and summer stock
theatre, band and choir for most of her childhood. She attended Minnesota
State University in Mankato where she was involved in several theatre
productions and choirs, and earned her bachelor's degree in music with
the hopes of a career in musical theatre. She currently resides in Minnesota
Lake.
During her college years, Beth entered a difficult and painful period
in her life. She was introduced to Jesus Christ by a friend in 1991 and
she accepted the call to music ministry shortly thereafter. Beth quickly
became active as a vocalist and worship leader, most notably serving as
lead vocalist in the band Free and Clear from 1998 to 1999, and now serves
as a vocalist for the band Spirit and Truth based in Mankato, Minnesota.
She launched her solo music ministry in 2004 with the release of her debut
album, "Closer" and currently ministers throughout the Midwest
as a singer, worship leader and speaker. Beth is also a founding member
of Heart to Heart Music Ministries, a ministry devoted to proclaiming
the good news of Jesus Christ through music and assisting others called
to music ministry in the areas of prayer support, vocal and music training,
performance coaching and encouragement.
Beth's journey into Christian radio began in January of 1999 when she
began at KJLY as a part-time on-air minister. Her role grew to a full-time
evening position at KJLY, and then to on-air minister and operations manager
at KJCY Radio in Mason City, Iowa. She left the radio ministry in 2002
to pursue her music ministry, but returned in 2005 to host the one o'clock
hour each weekday for the Kinship Christian Radio family. Besides music
and radio, Beth also enjoys custom framing artwork, working part-time
at a cancer center in Mankato and spending time with her family. Above
all things, Beth enjoys worshipping the Lord and serving Him in whatever
capacity He asks.
